Self Evaluation of TA-ship

The last component of CEE200 is the Self Evaluation section, this is probably the most important section, aimed at developing and improving your TA abilities "on the job."  While TAing, students will choose one area to focus on for reflection and improvement.  We have developed a structure for this part of the course which allows both flexibility and guidance in what individuals do to improve their TAing.  The meetings described below will take place each quarter for the CEE 200 students TAing that quarter.  The dates listed apply to students TAing in the fall quarter.

Section Leaders

Fall Quarter:  Matt Brennan
Winter Quarter:  Andrea Ferro
Spring Quarter:  Kris May

Informational Meeting

Thursday 9/28, 12:15-1:15pm, Terman M33
Date, Time and Location for Winter and Spring will be announced.

This meeting will take the first week of every quarter.  It provides an in-depth view into the course, a chance for faculty and students to connect with others involved in the course, and an opportunity to ask questions.  You will complete a TAing Skills Diagnostic to help focus your efforts. Faculty members serving as advisors for CEE200 students for the first time should attend this meeting.

Second Group Meeting

Students will meet during the second week of classes to share and receive feedback on their plans for the quarter.  Some development options that students may wish to pursue include periodic discussion sessions with other TA's, CTL evaluations, student surveys, curriculum development, a weekly journal, education literature review, a statement of teaching philosophy, attendance of seminars on teaching, creation of a class web page, and development of a teaching portfolio.

Planning Meeting Between Faculty and TA

You will meet with the faculty member you're TAing for some time during the first few weeks of the quarter to discuss your development plan.

Group Check-in Meetings

During the quarter, you'll meet with other TA's to share your progress and receive feedback.

Recap Meeting Between Faculty and TA

At the end of the quarter, you will meet again with your professor to give a brief oral summary of your experiences and lessons learned during the quarter.  You'll also submit an informal written report.  At the end of this meeting, the faculty member can assign one unit of credit for the class (you will register for CEE200 with your faculty advisor as the section number, similar to registering for an independent study unit).

Individual students and faculty members can choose to have additional meetings throughout the quarter to discuss your progress or the TA-ship in general.
